Ingela F. Hyatt <IngelaH>

I was born in Dunnottar Castle in Grampian, Scotland, high upon the cliffs over looking the turbulent North Sea. And I was betrothed to my true love at the tender age of twelve. I remember the first time I saw him, riding across the plains upon his white charger, his armour shining brilliantly in the noonday sun...I swear, I feared my heart would leap out of my breast for the love he did instill in me...

(Insert record scratch here.)

Okay, the truth of the matter is: reality sucks, and I’m a story teller and have been since the moment I could talk, according to my Dad. Whenever he caught me in a lie, I had no problem coming up with a dozen reasons why I painted the cat purple with green polk-a-dots, none of them true of course, but at least they were highly entertaining. It was at that time he knew I was destined for greatness... I would become a writer, a story teller who actually gets PAID to lie. What more could you possibly want in a career?

How do you like your heroes? Grunting Alpha? Or Romantic Beta?
We're having a discussion on the Amazon Forums about Alpha heros and I realized there are two classes of Alphas: Grunting, and the Cool, Dangerous, Sophisticated with the occasional Grunt on the side.

Grunting Alpha:

These are the guys who charge into the fray with swords in hand and slaughter the enemy first and ask questions later. They're a bit stubborn, and just a little wild (to put it lightly), demanding complete possession of their women. They are the leaders of the pack who don't take crap from anyone, and if you mess with them, you'd better watch out because they'll steam roll you if not hack off your head...

Examples:

Gavrael McIllioch, otherwise known as Grimm from To Tame A Highland Warrior is a perfect example of a Grunting Alpha. Besides the fact he's a beserker, he is definitely more likely to hack the enemy to pieces and ask questions later type-of-guy. And demands FULL possession over his woman. In fact, I'd say most of Karen Marie Moning's heroes are Grunters.

Marsha Canham likes to write about grunting Alphas, as does Bertrice Small, Virginia Henley, Keri Arthur, and Sue-Ellen Welfonder.

Sophisticated Alpha:

When he steps into a room all eyes turn towards him, sensing his commanding presence. He is handsome to a fault, but he never shows his true feelings so you never know what he's thinking. He plays it cool, but there's a dangerous edge to him -- cross the line and you just might find yourself on the field of honor. Women flock to him, adore him, and tend to beg for one tantalizing night in his bed because he KNOWS how to pleasure. He's the sophisticated Alpha, but the moment his woman is threatened, he'll become a Grunter.

Examples:

Rothgar from Jo Beverley's Devilish is the PERFECT example of a Sophisticated Alpha. He's cool, he's dangerous and knows how to dress to kill... LOL He's so aloof, you've just GOT to learn more about him.

Wulfric Bedwyn from Slightly Dangerous (Mary Balogh) is definitely a Sophisticated Alpha. Similar to Rothgar, he's cool, dangerous and very much reserved, until the heroine pulls him out of his shell.

Jane Feather, Teresa Medeiros, Julia Quinn, and Eloisa James, all love to write about Sophisticated Alphas

And then we have sweet, romantic Betas...

Romantic Beta:

Though these males often show Alpha tenancies when the going gets tough, they are generally speaking very romantic, shy, and may patiently wait years for their chance to woo the woman of their dreams. You may not notice them at first for they do not stand out in a crowd, but once seen they capture your interest. They are highly intelligent and want nothing more than to sweep the heroine into their arms and hold them tight for the rest of their lives.

Examples:

Julian Hampton from The Romantic by Madeline Hunter, waited years before finally wooing the love of his life. He did not let his feelings show until the day she came to him, needing his help. He is truly one of the most romantic heroes I've ever had the pleasure to read---the book was aptly named.

Sir Marmaduke Strongbow from Sue-Ellen Welfonder's Bride of the Beast is another favorite Beta hero of mine. Though scarred, he has the tongue of a poet, the heart of a romantic, and the sensuality of a god. He is a classic Beta/Alpha hybrid, the perfect sweet Beta to heal the heroine and sweep her off her feet.

I admit, I love them all: Grunt-o-licious Alphas, Sophisticated Alphas, and Romantic Betas. Tell me, what's your favorite type of hero? Who would you like to sweep you...er...the heroine off her feet?

Ode to Charlie...
As I'm sure all you LOST fans must know, our sweet rocker Charlie is now dead. *sniff* (I did actually cry, I know I'm too tender-hearted. *sniff) Of course we had warnings of this for weeks, but at the last moment I had hoped that he would survive to live another day...pour Claire, how devastated she will be when she finally learns the truth.

And damn Patchy! I knew he wasn't dead! Why won't that guy DIE!!! I just KNEW that damn spear gun in the chest at close range would NOT kill him, damn it! Obviously he's one of the original "hostiles" and there must be something "magical" about them (or the island), the fact that he won't die, and Richard (the one with the heavy mascara eyes) has not aged a bit in twenty to thirty years, says that there is something special with them...now why their women keep dying in child birth is another story...

And BEN! OHHHH I could just kick the crap out of Ben! And why didn't Jack kill the bastard when he had the chance?! I mean, can you believe that he gave the order to kill Sayid and Jin? (I don't really care about Benjamin. LOL) Kate was right in wanting to kill Ben, that is for sure!

Of course we have to congratulate Hurley for saving the day! I was so worried he was going to get killed, but I'm glad to see he didn't. Let's give a big HURRAY for HURLEY!!! LOL

I KNEW LOCKE WASN'T DEAD!!! Didn't I tell ya? However, that was a surprise to see Walt, boy has he shot up like a weed or what? Now when Locke killed the woman, what was her name, Nicole (?), I thought for sure he was going to kill Jack! Thank God he couldn't do it, but I do think that Locke is right, that they are going to regret contacting that dead woman's crew...In fact, I'm going to make a WILD prediction here...that next season, the Survivors and the Others are going to have to team up against the "rescuers". I just have this feeling that something shocking like that IS going to happen next season...and I can't wait!

Now, as to the flash forwards of Jack, that was totally COOL! I don't usually say "totally cool" but it really was! It wasn't until Kate got out of the car that I realized it was a flash into the future! So I guess this means that Locke is right, that they shouldn't leave the island. Plus we also now know that the dead woman had nothing to do with Desmond's Penny, so there is definitely something sinister going on there... And you really have to wonder who's funeral that was that no body went to, Micheal? Locke? I figure Kate must have hooked up with Sawyer and both were given pardons...

Well folks, that's all for this season... *sniff* And do you know we have to wait until JANUARY 2008 before we get to see episode one of LOST??? What kind of bull sh*t is that! Sorry, I don't like it when people take my fabulous program away! LOL

I just have one more thing to say...Charlie WILL be back, in flashbacks!

John Locke canNOT be Dead!!!
As you can imagine, every time a new episode of LOST is on, my eyes are pretty much glued to the TV. I mean this show is the best thing since sliced bread! :L Well, at least it's highly entertaining...

Yes, last week's episode when poor Sawyer killed Locke's father was pretty shocking. Though I must say that at least Sawyer got his revenge, and Locke finally got rid of his horrible father without having to do anything himself.

Now we know that Jack knew the Others were coming for all the pregnant women all along...but why didn't he SAY something?! Oh, I just want to smack him around sometimes!

But the real question here is: Has Juliet truly defected from the Others, or is she just playing another game?

Now to Ben's story... It was nice to FINALLY learn something about the bloke! It was sad that his mother died upon his birth and his father blamed him and forgot his birthday his entire life, that was very upsetting. However, the fact that HE killed his own father, pretty much tells us the kind of manic he truly is. And now we also know he's been spewing lies...gee no surprise there! So he wasn't born on the island and apparently he didn't bring all those people there. Of course he did help kill off ALL "his people", again I'm "SOOOOOO" surprised to see his so damn ruthless. Now I have to admit, I too thought Ben was mad when he took Locke to see Jacob! But then we heard the voice and saw "Jacob" react. I have a feeling that the line of sand or whatever it was which Ben and Locke crossed is keeping Jacob from getting to the Others...another damn mystery to solve! LOL

I was shocked when Ben shot Locke, but then I guess we now know why his daughter gave Locke a gun. She knows just how damn ruthless he truly is. However, I don't think Locke is dead...he CAN'T be! I like Sawyer and Jack, but I think Locke is who the story truly revolves around. And ever since I found out he was crippled and can now walk I've been cheering for him. However, I'm willing to bet that with only two episodes to go that we will NOT find out if Locke survived the gunshot until next year -- mark my words.

On a side note, I was surprise to find that Richard, otherwise known as the Other with too much mascara and eyeliner...you know the one I'm talking about who is Ben's "sidekick" and gave Locke the file on Sawyer...I was surprised to see that he was one of the original "hostiles" and hasn't aged a bit...

Okay, so maybe my whole theory of Purgatory is incorrect, but it's still a possibility. I mean how was it that Locke's father got on the island, let alone Ben's mother? And Locke's father did say something about Hell... However there is still the possibility that the Others are Aliens...

Well that's it for my Lost rambling this week.

Jack: I've been flyin' a lot.
Kate: What?
Jack: Yeah, that Golden Pass that they gave us, I've been usin' it. Every Friday night I fly from L.A. to Tokyo or Singapore... or Sydney. And then I get off and I have a drink and then I fly home.
Kate: Why?
Jack: Because I want it to crash, Kate. I don't care about anybody else on board. Every little bump we hit, or turbulence, I mean, I actually close my eyes and I pray that I can get back.
Kate: This is not gonna change.
Jack: I'm sick of lying! We made a mistake.
Kate: I have to go. He's gonna be wondering where I am.
Jack: We were not supposed to leave.
Kate: Yes, we were. Goodbye, Jack.
Jack: We have to go back, Kate. We have to go back!

Hi, Love the story! I love historicals. So, I will leave it to you guys towrite it.

I personally write contemporary romance. I know that subject well. I try to write real life situations and bring the couple together in a realistic way. I don't mess with history. I would probably have every professor in the universe at my door. But I love to read it, and MEDIEVAL is my FAVE!

Sharing some luv.
